Lazy Girl’s Gem

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Hi chicas! There’s a very cool line of products on the market that will save us ladies about four minutes in the shower. It may not sound like much, but on weekday mornings that’s an extra four minutes you can spend accessorizing. It’s Caress Exotic Oil Infusions Cream Oil Body Wash (www.caressskin.com); the creams have oils in them, which makes them ultra rich and so incredibly moisturizing. And that means you can use them to shave! Rub some on your legs, glide that razor up and you’ll be smooth in about 60 seconds. You won’t even need to moisturize after your shower, either. They’re that good.

How Do They Get that Glow?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Ah, the glow of celebrity. I’m sure you’ve all noticed how the famous and fabulous J.Lo’s of Hollywood walk around with the brightest, prettiest, youngest looking skin you’ve ever seen. The secret? That’s complicated. It’s a mix of hydration, facials, vitamins, and products. But I can give the secret of a product that will give you an instant iridescent shimmer on any part of the skin you place it: Ramy’s Pure Juice! Pearl Gloss Highlighter, available at www.ramy.com. It’s a white gel that rubs on clear and leaves skin—especially cheek bones—dewy and glistening.

Trend Alert: Gladiator Pumps

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Whenever I look at red carpet pics in the weekly gossip mags, my eye always navigates down to the shoes the celebs are wearing. Eighty percent of the time it’s a good ole’ Louboutin red sole, but I love it when a celeb rocks a fab pair of shoes that everyone can afford (and better still, just go to the mall and pick up!). Julissa Bermudez recently wore a pair of metallic Steven by Steve Madden “Merritt” shoes to BET’s Rip the Runway Fashion (click here to check them out), and they’re under $150. Our girl is on the right track by wearing this season’s hottest shoe: high heel gladiator sandals. Gladiators will be all the rage this summer, so run out and get a pair before everyone else gets on the band wagon!

Better to Have Loved and Lost? I Think Not.

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

The other day, I had my first experience of love at first sight with Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Makeup Diamond Luster Face Powder compact (www.victoriassecret.com). The packed powder has bright, shimmering, multi-colored jewels etched into it. When you dust a big fluffy brush over it, the combined shades leave a luminous luster on your skin. Gorgeous, both in the package and on your face. I fell for it, and I fell hard. It’s been in my purse for weeks, but alas, it will only be on counters for six. You can find the Radiant Diamond compact, $22, at all Victoria’s Secret stores beginning mid-April. But come the end of May, they’ll be gone and only the memory will remain. Honestly, I’d rather we’d never met at all.

Watered Down Beauty

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Hello all! Can I ask: How many of you drink water–like, a ton of water–during the day? Anyone?

I hate to admit this, but I don’t. I used to; up until I was 12 years old, it was my most favorite drink. Then I turned 13; I discovered boys and my love of chocolate, and suddenly I started disliking the taste of water. But I know that in order for our skin cells to turn over and revive, they need water. In fact, all the cells in our bodies need water to function at their best. So, I’m trying. Now raise a bottle, ladies–I have one right here next to me! -Angelique

Pretty Little Peel

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Hi Ladies! I am so excited to talk to you all right now. I have just gotten my very first major chemical peel! A Vitality Institute Peel from Dr. Kalil, to be exact. I must admit, talking to the doctor to research this peel–which combines a mix of acids at lower doses–was one thing; getting the peel was totally different. I was freaking out! When the doctor asked me if I wanted to try one, all I could think about was the scene in Sex and the City when Samantha gets a chemical peel and her face turns red and raw, and Carrie tells her she looks like beef carpaccio.

But, as the doctor explained to me, after I received the peel my face would be completely presentable, with no redness or irritation. On the third day, my skin would begin to peel off and all I had to do was smother it in moisturizer. And by day seven, my skin would be amazing! Gorgeous! Youthful! Glowing! And so…I took the plunge. The results? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out! So far, I look pretty normal. Sunday…well, I’m guessing that might be another story.

Protect Your Heels!

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

There’s a dilemma that affects all of us ladies, but I may have found a cure. As much as I try to avoid any cracks on the sidewalks, potholes, or those cobblestone streets in the Meatpacking District, the streets of NYC inevitably take a serious toll on my tacones. Whether they’re wider and cone-shaped or thin, Manolo Blahnik heels, I always seem to damage them. And the damage is done in countless ways, from the leather getting scraped to the most horrible one of all: the heel simply breaks off, leaving you lopsided and—let’s face it—not looking too cute!

Recently, someone introduced me to Smart Heel (smartheel.com). It’s a clear contraption that you can slide onto your favorite heels to protect them from impending disaster. It’s also one of those inventions that makes you ask yourself, “Why didn’t I think of that?!” Well, someone did—and it works!

What do you think? Would you slip this on and off in order to protect your fave pair of Louboutins? Let me know!

New Lash News

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Hi Ladies! I have another goody to make your eyelashes look luscious: a Heated Mini Eyelash Curler. It looks like a stick, with slits at the top.The top portion heats up, so you first click it on, then glide the top of the stick over your lashes. The lashes will slip into the slits and begin to heat up, allowing them to hold their shape. Use it just like you would any mascara wand: keep combing the stick through your lashes until they grow so long, your jaw drops in amazement. –Angelique
