Foreheadband—Ugly Word For a Cute Accessory
The first time I saw one of these was on Lourdes Leon–I was putting together a Style File slideshow of her best looks, and I spotted this photo of Lola sporting one to a Kabbalah session. It’s that thin elastic headband stretched around her forehead. Then I started spotting it on hip girls all over Los Angeles, like at the Grove, a shopping area near my house. The girls who wear it usually have long hair and a kind of funky, mix-and-match style. I also read that socialites in New York are showing up en masse with these elastics securing their tresses. And for someone like me who is constantly trying to figure out how to keep my hair out of my face, it might be a cute option. But what do you call it, exactly? To my great dismay, I discovered that it is called a foreheadband. Ew, that word sucks! I prefer the French sounding ferronieres. I like it because it reminds me of: hippies, the sporty tennis headbands from the Royal Tennenbaums and flappers all rolled up into one post-millennial trend. And unlike some outrageously priced It Bag, you can buy skinny elastic bands that function as a ferronieres by the pack at threddies.com. They come in a variety of colors, but they’re inexplicably not very cheap— $10.50! Although, they are cheap enough for my recession clothing budget (after my “broke” post last week, I ended up buying two skirts from Forever 21 that I officially live in—but feel guilty about, like it was too easy)….On second thought, I don’t know if anybody wants to see a 35-year-old mom (me) rocking a foreheadband. I’ll leave that for Mary Kate and Ashley. Though somebody should try and lasso one on Selena Gomez’s forehead, no? And if the foreheadband turns out to be a disastrous trend, we can always just use them to keep our hair back while we wash our makeup off at night.–Serena

These bands are all a throw back to the 80’s… in the 80’s it was a throwback to the 70’s.
Yup, Yup. All she/they need now are some hanging feather earrings, + the matching feathered “roach clip” hanging from their belt loop to complete the look. LMAO!!! ANYTHING ORIGINAL LATELY? I mean I LOVE vintage, but RENAMING AN ALREADY EXISTING STYLE ITEM a new name is just ridiculous. A headband is a headband is a headband!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STRETCHPANTS WILL ALWAYS BE STRETCHPANTS……….Capisco/Entiendes?
