Accessory Update: Swap That Shemagh Scarf for a Crisp Visor

I was planning on writing a meditation on the ubiquitous shemagh scarf (which your less politically correct friends probably call the “terrorist scarf”—you know what I’m talking about). But after scouring the Internet for more information and finding so many trendy shemagh scarves for sale—even at Wet Seal–I realized that this trend is going the way of the trucker hat. There are even shemaghs with hearts on them at kaboodle.com! Arafat would roll in his grave.
And then I remembered seeing these really cute, perky visors all over the Marc Jacobs resort collection at style.com. Of course, how simple! The must-have accessory for 2009 was right under my nose—or over it, as it were. Until Marc makes his designer versions available for tons of money, you can find them all over in sport shops, hat stores and on amazon.com. I really like the see-through plastic ones in fun colors at orientaltradingcompany.com, which sells them by the dozen as party favors. They even have ‘em in neon colors, which I could totally see Kanye West rocking in his next video. The point is to wear them with irony and a lot of attitude, cocked severely at an angle.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but visors as the next big thing doesn’t sound like much of a stretch to me. There’s been worse (trucker hats). Still, I could see this trend working for a few weeks and then going downhill FAST.
I also want to know when the skinny jean trend is going to run it’s course.
