Too Hot to Trot
Loving Ms. Marilyn Monroe as I do, I just happen to have her little ditty, “We’re Havin’ A Heat Wave,” on loop in my head. It’s starting to get annoying, but I can’t help it–it’s so freaking hot here in NYC! These 90-plus degree days have run amok on my body. Not only am I sleep deprived (who can sleep in this heat?) and completely fatigued, but I’m also sunburned. I know, I know; I preach the importance of sunscreen and then go and do a thing like this. But I swear it was an accident; on Saturday, I went to watch a charity softball tournament and simply forgot to pack the SPF. I am an idiot, and am paying the price. If any of you ladies are regretfully in the same position as I, steer clear of heavy, fragranced lotions and slather on pure aloe vera. If you find a brand with Lidocaine–a numbing agent–well, that’s a bonus. Stay cool, girls!

Aloe vera gel or aloe vera is the best thing when sunburned. Lotions are not good at all. The lotions will mask the burn and keep heat inside your body, but the aloe vera will cool the burn and moisturize at the same time. Also don’t where white or pink. Only where browns when sunburned; it won’t attract that much attention to your burn as white or pink. This includes lipstick as well…no pinks etc. Try burt’s beeswaz tinted brown.
I made a mistake and typed “wear” wrong. Forgive me, it should have read “wear” instead of “where”.
Good old Noxema, although luckily I don’t burn. I remember using it as a kid. P.S. drink lots of H20 + hydrate much.
