This weekend, I almost missed my subway stop reading a New Yorker article about elevators. Yes, elevators. What made it so interesting was that it included the story of Nicholas White, a Newsweek reporter who was working late one night in Manhattan’s McGraw-Hill building and got trapped in an elevator while on his way down to a cigarette break. He was trapped for 41 hours, and to say that it ruined his life is no overstatement—he emerged bitter, sued and lost all his money and is still unemployed nine years later. The New Yorker posted a sped-up video of his entire ordeal. It lasts about 3 minutes and it’s the most compelling, disturbing thing I’ve seen online in a while. Check it out.

Well, I read the same article while waiting at my kid’s doctor’s office today. I quite agree–very disturbing. I think this was from the Journey’s edition of the New Yorker.
