Ah, there’s nothing quite like the sound of a writer slaving over the latest
mind-blowing plot twist on Lost or the next George Clooney movie. And now
that the Writers Guild of America and producers have agreed to a deal that
will end the three-month strike, Hollywood writers are back at work today (TV showrunners came back on Monday).
The major victory for writers: A deal that will give them a decent chunk of
change for work on shows used on the internet and other new media. That
producers were holding out on something so obvious is gross. The fact that
the writers stuck it out for as long as they did — at the expense of their
bank accounts and in some cases, even their jobs — sticking the industry with
$2 billion worth of lost revenue (ah, the pen is mightier than the sword)
makes me question my utter aversion to joining anything that even smells
like groupthink, including crime watch groups, condo boards and match.com.
(Hey, I grew up in Cuba, where a neighborhood comittee led by the biggest
chismosa on the block could get you jailed for stepping out of the communist
line. That shizz is hard to shake off.)
But on to what you really want to know: What will happen to the rest of the
TV season? Networks have started to make those decisions today, with fave shows like Lost, Ugly Betty and How I Met Your Mother getting five or so episodes to round out the season, while other shows like breakout hit Chuck not making it back till next season.

They do the work, they deserve the pay
Hurrah! To the writers for having the guts to stick it out! I really missed my favorite shows but understood the reason, after all they, the writers, are why I love my favorite shows!
