Tigre-licious or Tigre-tastrophe?

How do I know 2008 will be the best year ever? We’re just three days deep into it, and already there’s a juicy bit of musical chisme shaking up my world. According to Mexican paper La Reforma, Fergie Ferg and her handlers have reached out to the coolest norteño band on the planet, Los Tigres Del Norte, about a possible collaboration for its new album (dropping in late March). If that’s not enough to blow your mind, lead singer Jorge Hernández says that the guys are totally down for it! It seems they’re ready to try out some new sounds while, let’s hope, not losing their core awesomeness:

“Ahorita estamos haciendo experimentos de cómo podríamos darle el gusto al mercado con diferentes cosas que se pueden hacer, sin cambiar (la música) lo que nos ha dado de comer por tantos años, ser fiel y que no pierda el estilo.”

I honestly don’t know whether to jump for joy or weep fat tears over this news.

Why, you might ask? (Or, you might not ask, but I’ll tell you anyway.) I’ve always been crazy conflicted over Fergie. I used to hold her singlehandly responsible for the swift, vicious murder of the Black Eyed Peas, although now I think that, if anything, she just exposed the group’s true sellout colors. As for her solo effort, the debut single “London Bridge” kind of made my ears bleed, but I’m not mad at the rest of the album at all (I especially love her new single, “Clumsy”), and apparently neither are the 2.4 million people who copped it in 2007.

That said, we’ve all seen the disaster that Fergie perpetrated on Daddy Yankee’s career in the form of “Impacto.” If Los Tigres go the route of Yankee, or–gasp!will.i.am, I might give up on the future of music altogether.

I think its cool that Fergie is finally showing her “latinidad”, hopefully we see more of that side in the future. =) As for the collaboration…I love Fergie, and I love Los Tigres Del Norte, we’ll just have to wait and see how well they mix together…I cant wait!! =D Suerte! ; )
