The Dominican Wonder Twins Chronicles, vol. 2
Well, that was quick. Maya and Alejandro’s adventures in Heroes have become stale, just three episodes in. The latest? Alejandro breaks into a car in Mexico, gets caught by police and Maya is left to break him out by giving everyone in the cop shop the bad-eyes till they drop dead. You know what comes next: Alejandro absorbs all her evil and brings the victims back to life. And that’s the problem. Maya and Alejandro’s powers (she kills, he heals) are totally predictable in each and every scrape they get into, making it hard to feel any kind of real tension or suspense. Add to that the fact that they’ve done nothing but run for three episodes, and you have a storyline in a rut. Here’s hoping that el gringo the twins broke out of prison and who offers a getaway car gets them into El Norte double-quick, and gets this story going. Similarly, Peter and Hiro need to get back home from self-imposed (and boring) exile in Ireland and Japan, asap. Though I’m hoping Peter’s wishy-washy exploration of his power’s dark side blossoms, it’s great to have a true villain, Sylar, back in the game—Zachary Quinto’s mix of menace and craziness is mesmerizing.
