Kicking off a music blog with a post about Jennifer Lopez is fitting in some ways, and admittedly eyebrow-raising in others, but what the hey—I’m doing it anyway. Especially because I’m off to Atlantic City (aka the holy land of New Jersey) tonight to check out the debut of her tour with Marc (don’t worry, I’ll fill you in on all the juicy details next week), and that’s really all I can think about right now—so much for getting work done!

So here’s the deal: with her new album, Brave, set to drop in T-minus 11 days, Jennifer’s dominating the headlines. But for what? No, not her single “Doin It Well,” which actually is doing pretty well on the charts, making its debut this week on the Pop Hot 100. Now look, I’m not saying that I expect to see a scholarly essay on the profundity of Jennifer’s lyrics, or even her nod to old-school disco and freestyle and how it situates her as both retro and current in today’s pop landscape. All I’m saying is, Jennifer’s got some pretty fun music coming out right now, and this is the first time in a long time that I’ve been genuinely excited to hear it. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this. So to all my people in the biz, I say this: if anyone decides to do a breaking news alert about Jennifer’s lovely baby bump within the next 11 days, please give her, and me, the common courtesy of having it read, Jennifer Lopez’s Baby to Drop in Nine Months; Album to Hit Stores Next Week. If you don’t, you’re just doing a disservice to all of us!
