ANTM Adopts a Green Theme, Kicks First Girl Out of the House

This season of “America’s Next Top Model” has a theme, and it’s not “be fierce.” The theme is Saving the Planet (or something like that), and girls will live in a green (aka eco-friendly) house, which, I think, is very cool.

The thirteen hopefuls moved into the Green House, and the drama starts almost immediately. A feud erupts between Bianca and Lisa, resulting in a half-assed kiss-and-make-up session which Bianca later admitted she only did so that she wouldn’t get called out during panel. Heather, the girl with Asperberger’s syndrome (a mild form of Autism, in her words), feels isolated from the rest of the girls and spends a lot of time reading and cleaning on her own. The other girls are actually sort of mean to her, which is so wrong. Ebony, the self-described bitch from the first episode, seems to have done a complete 180 and is now actually quite chill. Let’s see how long that lasts.

In model business, the girls have their first photo shoot, which is designed to show them the dangers of smoking. They take two shots, the first in which they look all cool and glamourous smoking their cigs, and the second in which they look like cancer patients. During panel, we see that the images have been Photoshopped together so it looks like the sexy-smoker girl is looking at herself in the mirror as a cancer victim. Ay, Tyra. You and your issues. I guess I can’t hate on you for trying to get people to stop smoking.

Saliesha, so far my favorite girl on the show, wins the Old Navy Personal Style Challenge and gets a $1000 gift certificate to the store. Wow, $1000 will buy you quite a lot of ribbed t-shirts.

Judging time comes along and Heather is the first to get called up (take that, haters!). Mila and Ebony land in the bottom two, and after Tyra points out their flaws, Mila is sent home.

Then, Tyra announces that this season of “Top Model” is a non-smoking season, meaning none of the girls are allowed to smoke. Now, I detest smokers as much as the next chica, but that’s a little ridiculous. I mean, isn’t Tyra supposed to be teaching these girls to be top models? Don’t all top models smoke? I get what she’s trying to do, promote a healthier image of modeling, but something about Tyra when she gets in Mama mode just rubs me the wrong way.
