I Want to Have My J.Lo Cake and Eat It Too

Published by mherrera under Sound Check

Kicking off a music blog with a post about Jennifer Lopez is fitting in some ways, and admittedly eyebrow-raising in others, but what the hey—I’m doing it anyway. Especially because I’m off to Atlantic City (aka the holy land of New Jersey) tonight to check out the debut of her tour with Marc (don’t […]

ANTM Adopts a Green Theme, Kicks First Girl Out of the House

Published by Vivo por TiVo under Vivo por Tivo

This season of “America’s Next Top Model” has a theme, and it’s not “be fierce.” The theme is Saving the Planet (or something like that), and girls will live in a green (aka eco-friendly) house, which, I think, is very cool.
The thirteen hopefuls moved into the Green House, and the drama starts almost immediately. A […]

Thoughts on “Cane”?

Published by Vivo por TiVo under Vivo por Tivo

So, what did you all think of Cane? Loved it? Hated it? Will you watch again?
Unfortunately, the ratings for the long-awaited show (by Latinos, anyway) weren’t quite so, uh, sweet. Here’s what Benjamin Toff of the New York Times had to say:
“Cane,” CBS’s new drama with Jimmy Smits, was hardly an instant hit in the […]

Dancing with the Stars, Season Premiere: Perfomance #1: Las Mujeres

Published by Vivo por TiVo under Vivo por Tivo

Dear ABC People,
Your shows have taken over my life. We get it, your fall lineup is amazing. But please, “Dancing with the Stars” three nights in a row? I have plants that need watering, hair that needs washing, dishes that need doing, none of which will happen because I will be glued to my […]

Heroes, Season Two Premiere

Published by Vivo por TiVo under Vivo por Tivo

Between 9 and 9:30pm last night, things got a little ugly for me. Some cruel, thoughtless network programming executive decided to run the last half-hour of “Dancing with the Stars” at the same time as the first half-hour of “Heroes.” Shame on you, Mr. Executive. Still, with some skilled channel-surfing I was able to watch […]

Speaking of made up Latin names…

Published by docana under Hollywood Is Burning

Somebody at HBO Latino (which we admit we never watch) had the brilliant idea of showcasing Latin culture by simply having tell their own stories and anecdotes in front of a camera. The result? Habla and Habla Mas, showing through Saturday on HBO on Demand, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Far from being earnest […]

Live long and prosper, Zoe

Published by docana under Hollywood Is Burning

So, after years of not knowing what to do with a dark-skinned Latina with potential, it seems like Hollywood finally just decided to shove Zoe Saldana into outer space. Not only has the Dominican actress started shooting James Cameron’s $200 million 3-D extravaganza, Avatar, but she just signed on to do a new Star Trek […]

Go see this movie now

Published by docana under Hollywood Is Burning

Just doing my part to see that Eastern Promises, which just went wide this weekend after premiering in just 15 theaters on September 14, gets the word of mouth that it deserves. It should get a big audience, not only because it is a taut crime story that manages to have a very personal, small […]
